OBU Seeking Judges for National Forensics and Communications Contest March 17-19

February 18, 2016

OBU is seeking volunteers from the OBU community and the surrounding communities to help judge the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association National Open March 17-19. The event will be held on the OBU campus in Shawnee.

Last January, the University hosted the NCFCA regional qualifier tournament on campus, welcoming students from Oklahoma and Texas. The event went so well, OBU has been asked to host this national competition, featuring students from all over the country. The tournament will provide competition for more than 100 students from across the nation in both Lincoln Douglas Value and Team Policy debate, as well as Interpretive, Platform, and Limited Preparation speech events.

The NCFCA is the oldest and most established homeschool forensics league in the country. NCFCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing communications-based competitive activities, such as speech and debate, to homeschooled high schoolers. NCFCA places particular emphasis on excellence in academic and personal integrity as students learn to communicate more effectively.

Volunteers are needed once again to work the event as judges. The OBU community, alumni, and the local community are encouraged to volunteer and spread the word and share with their friends and family about this wonderful opportunity.

The NCFCA is seeking more than 200 willing volunteers from the community. The student competitors rely on the judges' valuable feedback for improvement, growth and encouragement. No experience in either speech or debate is necessary.

Judging each round is a three-hour commitment which includes a thirty-minute judge orientation. Volunteers may judge as little as one round on one day or as many as several rounds over all three days. Complimentary meals, snacks, and beverages will be provided.

To sign up to volunteer, visit www.ncfcajudges.org. Scroll down and click on the U.S. map. Click on the Oklahoma and Texas region in yellow on the next map. Choose the “OK National Open” and click "Sign-Up." Finally, select the events and times you are available to judge.
