Division of Music to Host Annual Keyboard Academy & Recital Nov. 12-13

OBU’s Division of Music will host its annual Keyboard Academy Nov. 12-13, featuring some of OBU’s own professors and special musical guests. The Keyboard Academy will feature a special recital Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel’s Yarborough Auditorium.
The annual Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts Keyboard Academy is for high school students, who have the opportunity to spend the night on the OBU campus while experiencing in-depth piano study for two days. They meet instructors, attend the recital, stay overnight with a music major, spend time in private lessons, visit a class, spend a session sight-reading, and spend time in the master class with a guest artist.
OBU faculty Dr. Carol Bell, associate professor emeritus of music; Dr. Mary Chung, assistant professor of piano; Dr. Michael Dean, associate professor of music; and Dr. Ron Lewis, professor emeritus of music, will perform in the Thursday evening recital. Guest artists for the event include Dr. Terrie Manno, the Manno-Dean Piano Duo, and Dr. Benjamin Myers, Crouch-Mathis Professor of Literature and the 2015-16 Poet Laureate for the State of Oklahoma. Featured pieces include Sergei Rachmaninoff”s “Suite No. 1 for two pianos, Op. 5;” Vincent d’Indy’s “Seven Songs of the Earth;” Antonin Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dances, Op. 46;” and Scott Joplin’s “Cleopha.”
The master class will be offered Nov. 13 at 1:00 p.m. OBU students as well as the general public are invited to attend the recital and master class.
