Bison Jazz Orchestra to Present Fall Concert Nov. 20

Oklahoma Baptist University’s Bison Jazz Orchestra will present their fall concert Friday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Craig-Dorland Theatre in Shawnee Hall. The group is directed by Justin Pierce, assistant professor of instrumental music, and will feature student vocalists Iveth Luna and Joel Cannon.
The Bison Jazz Orchestra, an auditioned 20 piece jazz ensemble, is the premiere jazz ensemble of the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts Division of Music. The group performs a wide variety of music ranging from the swing band era to contemporary big band works. The ensemble performs regularly on the OBU campus and throughout the Shawnee community and Oklahoma. The BJO has previously performed internationally as well.
The fall concert program will include pieces such as “I Won’t Dance” by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields; “Saturday Night is The Loneliest Night of the Week” by Jule Styne; “All of Me” as performed by Count Basie; and “Shanghigh” by Randy Brecker.
