J-Term and Spring Enrollment Opens Nov. 2
October 23, 2015
Enrollment dates for J-Term and the Spring 2016 semester are just around the corner. Beginning Nov. 2, seniors will be able to enroll, with enrollment for juniors opening Nov. 4. Sophomores may begin enrolling Nov. 6, with freshmen beginning Nov. 11.
J‐Term is an academic mini‐term held in January prior to each spring semester and is mandatory for first‐time freshmen. The intent of J‐Term is to strengthen the academic, social, relational, and spiritual formation of students during their collegiate experience at OBU.
For upperclassmen, J-Term is a chance to get ahead or pick up a much needed class, and to spend time with friends. For freshmen, J-Term is part of “The First Year Experience,” designed to assist in the transition to college life. The First Year Experience includes Welcome Week, learning communities, the Milburn Student Success Center and J‐Term.
A primary benefit of J‐Term is to keep students on track to graduate in four years. Most students achieve that objective by taking courses in the summer and/or J‐Term semesters. Most first‐year freshmen expect to graduate in four years, and attending J‐Term helps students reach this objective.
Students who enroll in a J-Term class will receive a scholarship for the cost of housing, but will be responsible for meal plan costs. Students who register for 2016 J-Term and Spring semester classes by Dec. 11 may include J-Term charges in their spring financial aid and payment plans.
During J-Term, students have the opportunity to take classes that are required for their major, electives, or one of three free classes, including Worldview, Success 101 and Success 102.
Not only will students have the opportunity to get ahead on their degree plan during J-Term, but they will also have the chance to build friendships and have a lot of fun in the process. Student Life offers many activities, both on and off campus. Last January, students attended a back to school bash, a professor open house night, a midnight movie, a retro skate night, a hockey game and tour of OKC, and a UCS concert and bonfire.
