Flutist Daniel Pardo in Concert Oct. 22
October 13, 2015
OBU’s Division of Music will host Daniel Pardo, a Colombian-American flutist, with accompanist Keith Critcher on piano, in concert Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place in Raley Chapel’s Yarborough Auditorium on the OBU campus in Shawnee. The concert is free and open to the public.
The program will include works by Debussy, Jolivet, Donizetti, and Doppler, and also a duet featuring both Pardo and Dr. Carlos Feller, adjunct instructor of music with the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts at OBU.
After 10 years of service as a U.S. military musician, Pardo completed studies in classical performance by earning a Bachelor of Music at Texas State University and a Master of Music at the University of North Texas. He also earned a Master Certificate in Music Production from the Berklee College of Music. Representing Texas State University, he toured Italy, performed at the White House, was awarded outstanding soloist at the North Texas Jazz Festival, and presented at the International Society for Improvised Music held at CalArts in 2009.
He enjoys exploring sounds and possibilities of native flutes from different cultures. This process began with South American quenas and zampoñas but has continued with the immersion into Chinese dizi and xiao, Japanese shakuhachi, Irish whistles, Persian nei, Romanian chromatic pan flutes, "Keita" (a new Colombian hybrid between gaita de San Jacinto and quena) and the EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument).
Keith Critcher will accompany Pardo on piano. Critcher is currently in his eleventh year at Texas Wesleyan University as vocal coach/accompanist and instructor of music in worship. He currently serves on the board of directors for Voces Intimae: The Art of Song. He is a 1983 graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, and earned a Master of Music in 1986 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
He has performed on piano with members of the Fort Worth Symphony in the Spectrum Chamber Series and with Texas Camerata as Harpsichordist. In 2007, he accompanied the National Touring production of My Fair Lady for Dallas Summer Musicals. He also serves as minister of music at East Dallas Christian Church.
