Trio Antiqua to Perform at OBU Sept. 29
September 18, 2015
OBU's Division of Music will host Trio Antiqua, a historical performance trio, in concert Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium on the OBU campus, located in Shawnee. The concert is free and open to the public.
Trio Antiqua is a historical performance group that began performing and touring in the summer of 2014. The group most recently performed at the OK Mozart Festival in June and will return by popular demand in the summer of 2016. Though the trio is a relatively new project, its members have regularly played together as professional musicians since 1998.
The group is unique, in that it uses historical baroque instruments and replicas for its performances. Baroque instruments have a smaller but warmer sound than modern instruments and were designed to be played in intimate settings with small audiences. The trio enjoys recreating the environment of the baroque and early classical eras and recounting stories about the instruments and music they are playing.
The trio's members include Theodora Morris on violin and recorder; Ralph Morris on violin and viola; and Thresa Swadley on cello. Swadley is a 2003 OBU graduate and teaches cello for the OBU Division of Music and Preparatory Department.
The group will be joined in concert by Dr. Mary Chung, OBU assistant professor of piano, and Dr. Carlos Feller, OBU adjunct flute instructor.
