August 10, 2015
OBU is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Matthew Emerson, who joins the faculty of the Herschel H. Hobbs College of Theology and Ministry as assistant professor of biblical and theological studies.
Emerson earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance with a minor in Religious Studies from Auburn University. He then earned a Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry and a Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Theology, both from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is the author of the book, "Christ and the New Creation: A Canonical Approach to the Theology of the New Testament."
Before joining the OBU faculty, he served as assistant professor of Christian studies at California Baptist University, as well as the chair of the Department of Arts and Sciences and the faculty lead for Christian studies. He previously served as an adjunct faculty member at Grand Canyon University and a teaching fellow at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His ministry experience includes more than three years as a minister of education and evangelism.
Dr. Stan Norman, provost and executive vice president for campus life, is looking forward to Emerson joining the faculty. "I am pleased to welcome Dr. Matthew Emerson to the faculty of the Hobbs College as assistant professor of biblical and theological studies," he said. "Dr. Emerson was a highly regarded member of the faculty at California Baptist University, and we are grateful that the Lord has led this experienced educator and respected academician to us. His educational credentials, his ministry background, and his passion for teaching the Word of God will serve our students well. We are delighted for him to join our outstanding faculty, and we welcome him to Bison Hill and to the OBU family."
