OBU Invites Public to Student, Faculty Recitals March 31-April 7

OBU's Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts and the Division of Music invite the community to five student and faculty recitals the week of March 31-April 7.
Sarah Gore will perform in recital on violin March 31 at 7 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium. She is a senior instrumental music education major from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She is a member of the Bisonettes, the OBU / Shawnee Community Orchestra, Symphonic Winds and NAfME (National Association for Music Education). She will be accompanied by Sandra Meyer on piano. Her performance will include "Etude Op. 36 No. 7" by Mazas, "Sonata in G Minor Op. 10 No. 10" by Handel, "Rondo in C Major K. 373" by Mozart and "Concerto in C Major" by Kabalevsky.
Courtney King will perform in vocal recital March 31 at 8:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium. She is a vocal music education major from Oklahoma City. She is the vocalist for the Bison Jazz Orchestra, a member of the University Chorale as well as NAfME. She has performed with OBU Theatre as Mother Superior in "Nunsense," a chorus member of "Street Scene" and as a chorus member of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." She will be assisted in recital by Dr. Keith Whitmore on piano. Her performance includes seven pieces such as "Das Veilchen" by Mozart, "Nachtviolen" by Schubert, "Banalites" by Poulenc and "Loving You" by Sondheim.
Patrick Womack, OBU alumnus and adjunct professor of percussion, will perform in duo recital with David Giaco, trombone, Thursday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium. Womack is a native of Oklahoma City and holds a Bachelor of Musical Arts from OBU and a Master of Music Performance from Oklahoma City University. He has performed as a freelance percussionist since 2008, playing in such ensembles as O.C.U. Steel and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Giaco earned a Bachelor of Musical Arts from OBU and a master's degree in trombone performance from Oklahoma City University. He maintains a large studio of low brass students in Oklahoma City and performs as a freelance trombonist. He is a member of the Blackwelder Brass Quintet and performs as a substitute with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. They will be performing pieces including "Athens Sonata" by Zambito, "Cello Suit no. 2 in d minor" by Bach, "O mio babbino caro" by Puccini, "Reflections on the Nature of Water" by Druckman and an original arrangement of "Chains (Amazing Grace)" by Newton.
Justin Pierce, OBU instructor of instrumental music and director of the Bison Jazz Orchestra, will perform in recital Monday, April 6, at 6 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium. Pierce joined the OBU faculty in 2014. He served as the temporary woodwinds and jazz ensemble instructor at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, from 2013-14, and as an adjunct instructor of woodwinds at Eastfield College, in Mesquite, Texas. He has served as an applied jazz saxophone instructor and lab band director at the University of North Texas in Denton, and has 11 years of teaching experience. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and his master's degree in jazz studies from the University of North Texas. He is currently working toward a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance from the University of North Texas. He will be accompanied by Xiao Wang on piano and joined by Hao Miao on violin. The performance will include "Sonata in F minor, Op. 120, No.1" by Brahms, "Concerto" by Tomasi and "Cantilène et Danse" by Eychenne.
Katie Batt will perform in recital on clarinet April 7 at 8:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium. She is an instrumental music education major from Shawnee. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Eta Sigma, Symphonic Winds, Bison Jazz Orchestra, Clarinet Quartet and Percussion Ensemble. She will be assisted in recital by Sandra Meyer on piano and Kari Peercy on clarinet. Her performance will include "Cantilène" by Cahuzac, "Sonata in F minor Op. 120, No. 1" by Brahms and "Concert Piece No. 1" by Mendelssohn.
