SEBTS President Akin Delivers Chapel Address
October 15, 2014
Dr. Daniel L. Akin, president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, delivered OBU's chapel message Wednesday, Oct. 15. He continued the fall 2014 chapel series theme of "Parables of the Kingdom: Jesus' Word Pictures as Found in the Gospel of Luke." His message was on the "Parables of the Lost Sheep and Coin" from Luke 15:1-10.

The title of his sermon was, "Are you excited about what excites God?" Akin implored Christians to take action in their faith, and called Christians to stop sitting on the sidelines and to instead make a difference in the world.
"God wants the church on earth to look like the church in heaven," Akin said. "You are never more like Jesus than when you are passionate to seek and to save that which is lost."
"Lostness is massive and lostness really does matter to our God," he said. "Why is it that more of us are not on mission for God? Why is it that we don't get excited about the things that excite God?"
Akin made three main points in his message, pulled from principles found in this parable. His first main point was that, "Not everyone rejoices in people coming to Jesus." Next, he stated that "Lost people matter to God and they should matter to us." Finally, he said that, "God and all of heaven celebrates the salvation of a single soul."
