OBU student Allissa Harshberger was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Delta Mu Delta, an international business honors society.
According to their website, Delta Mu Delta "encourages academic excellence of students at qualifying colleges and universities to create a community that fosters the well-being of its individual members and the business community through lifetime membership."
Harshberger, a senior professional accountancy major from Meade, Kansas, said this scholarship shows her hard work at OBU has paid off. "I was so excited that I didn't have to pay that $1,000 for tuition. I was just ecstatic," she said.
To be considered eligible for the OBU Delta Mu Delta chapter, Harshberger maintained a grade-point average of 3.38 or higher and remained in the top 20 percent of her class. To apply for the scholarship, she submitted an online application with three references.
"We are delighted that Allissa has been awarded a Delta Mu Delta Scholarship," said Dr. Rich Rudebock, Robert L. and Sara Lou Cargill associate professor of business. "This is a high honor for Allissa. She is an outstanding student with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. She is very deserving of the scholarship."
Dr. David Houghton, dean of the Paul Dickinson College of Business, said OBU strives to attract students with strong academic and moral character. "Having one of our students receive a scholarship from the Delta Mu Delta honor society is a great affirmation that we are recruiting high-caliber students to our program," he said. "We're very proud of Allissa's achievement."
Harshberger said she does not have set plans after graduation. "I would love to work for a small family-owned company and do the books for them, but I am leaving that up to God and what He has in store for me in the near future," she said.
