April 17, 2014
OBU student Katie Batt will perform her junior clarinet recital Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium. The community is invited to attend the free event.
Batt is an instrumental music education major from Shawnee, Okla. The daughter of Roger and Debra Batt, she is from the studio of Dr. Christopher Neal, adjunct professor of music. Batt's clarinet performance will at times be assisted by Elin Williams, a sophomore soprano from OBU.
The clarinet recital will include selections from Ralph Vaughn Williams' arrangement of "Ten Blake Songs." She will also perform a piece by Carl Maria von Weber.
Batt has been named to the President's Honor Roll for two years and the Dean's Honor Roll for one year. She is the recipient of the Horton Fine Arts Scholarship and the Ford Family Music Scholarship.
During her time on Bison Hill, she has been a member of the Symphonic Winds, the Bison Jazz Orchestra, the OBU-Shawnee Community Orchestra, Pep Band, Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Eta Sigma. She has also served as the band manager for the Symphonic Winds; the Bison Jazz Orchestra; and the Vice President of Membership Education for Kappa Kappa Psi.
Upon graduation, Batt hopes to work as a middle or high school band director.
