Bisonettes Announce Spring Concert Tour Dates

OBU's Bisonette Glee Club, under the direction of Dr. James Vernon, recently announced spring concert tour dates. The Bisonettes are the premiere women's chorus on OBU's campus in Shawnee.
The Bisonettes will begin their tour with a concert at First Baptist Church, Nicoma Park, Okla, on Sunday, March 9, at 10:45 a.m. The church is located at 1931 Nichols Drive. On Monday, March 10, the Bisonettes will perform at 10:45 a.m. at Lawton MacArthur High School, located at 4400 E. Gore Blvd. in Lawton, Okla. For more information, call (580) 355-5230. The group will perform many selections including "Awake My Heart," "Simple Gifts," "As the Deer Pants for Water," "Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God," "Songbird," and "Heaven Unfolding" as well as other pieces.
The Bisonettes will conclude their spring schedule with a concert Tuesday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium on the OBU campus in Shawnee. The concert will feature many of the selections from the tour, in addition to the world premiere of a piece composed by the Vernon, titled "Elegy for Trains." The work is a collaboration between Vernon and OBU professor Dr. Benjamin Myers and is based on a critically acclaimed poetry collection written by Myers.
The Bisonettes, OBU's women's glee club, was founded in 1954 by Warren M. Angell, former dean of the College of Fine Arts. Membership in the group is by audition. The group performs at a wide range of campus events and off-campus concerts, including an annual tour of churches and schools. The repertoire of the group represents a wide range of compositional styles in both sacred and secular music as well as showcasing choral standards, traditional numbers and contemporary compositions.
