Communication Arts Students to Present Research at OU Conference
February 28, 2014
Four OBU communication studies students recently were selected to present their research papers at the University of Oklahoma's Sooner Communication Conference March 7-8 on OU's campus in Norman. The conference features graduate and undergraduate communication scholars from across the nation discussing developments in theory and research in the communication discipline. All student papers went through a blind-review process for selection.
Accepted students include: Kalyn Baker, a junior from Sallisaw, Okla., whose research is titled "The Cost of Living: An Assessment of Marketing Adoption on Pinterest;" Trent Guleserian, "Mama's Boy: An Examination of Communication Acts between Athletes and their Mothers;" Sarah McGough, a junior from Duncan, Okla., "Transmission of Family Identities: Themes that Matter;" and Alec Daugherty, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., "Justice in the Dark[ness] [of] Knight: A Review of Justice Rhetoric in the Blockbuster Film."
Baker's, Guleserian's and McGough's presentations will be included on the panel, "Refining Communication Research Workshop." Daugherty's presentation will be featured on the panel "Approaches in Rhetorical Communication Research."
The four students' papers were written to fulfill part of the requirements of the communication course CMAR 2503: Information Gathering and Research, taught by Dr. Vickie Shamp Ellis, associate professor of communication arts.
"Over the past six consecutive years, OBU communication arts students have had their papers accepted to this conference, one of the most prestigious regional conferences in the country," Dr. Ellis said. "This year OU will celebrate its 25th year to host the Sooner Communication Conference."
