Davenport Named SAC Athletic Director of the Year
July 2, 2013
OBU director of athletics Robert Davenport is Sooner Athletic Conference Athletic Director of the Year.
Davenport is eligible for consideration for the national NAIA award.
In addition to facility improvements and fundraising, Davenport has overseen the addition of lacrosse and football, a 3.08 grade point average for varsity athletes, four NAIA championships in one day and the university's first Learfield Sports Directors' Cup title.
He also initiated OBU Athletics' Community Service Day and OBU had two Champions of Character team awards.
"Robert is very deserving of this honor," said SAC Commissioner John Hudson. "His leadership at OBU has been invaluable in multiple areas, from the development of a brand new football program to the task of fundraising. In every area, Robert has set new standards of excellence for those in our league to try to imitate. He set new highs this spring for both OBU and our conference, capped by OBU winning four national championships in one day this past spring, an unprecedented accomplishment in the NAIA."
