Bradley Named Director of Intensive English Program
June 20, 2013
OBU has named Sandra Bradley as director of the Intensive English Program. Bradley began work May 8 on Bison Hill.
Bradley previously served as both director and director of admissions at The Language Company in Shawnee and Ada, Okla., where she worked with international representatives, provided oversight for the quality and integrity of the curriculum, supervised staff and fulfilled other managerial duties. She also advised students on academic, immigration and personal issues.
Her other work experience includes teaching at the Creative Kids Learning Center in Oklahoma City; the Shawnee English Institute; and Rock Creek Baptist Preschool in Shawnee. She served as an administrative assistant at the East Texas Baptist Family Ministry in Timpson; to the dean of library services at OBU; for the communications office and women's program at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City; and for the Missouri Baptist Children's Home in Lee's Summit.
From 2000-02, Bradley served as a church developer and children's minister through the International Mission Board, Southern Baptist Convention, in Johannesburg, South Africa. She taught children in various capacities, cared for abandoned infants at the Baby House and trained children's workers and Sunday School teachers.
She earned a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University and a master's degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
"We are pleased Sandra is joining us as director of the Intensive English Program (IEP)," said Dr. Pam Robinson, associate provost at OBU and dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. "Sandra's previous experience as the director of another IEP program will allow her to easily step into the position at OBU."
"I am confident Sandra will continue the IEP's commitment to high standards for excellence among both teaching staff and students," Robinson said. "She has a clear passion for working with international students and understands how the IEP helps fulfill the mission of OBU. Her two years spent in Johannesburg, South Africa, with the International Mission Board give her the unique sense of how the international students feel upon arrival in the United States."
OBU's Intensive English Program is an academic English-language learning program that offers courses for beginning- to advanced-level students. The program is designed to develop English-language skills for academic and professional settings; prepare students for success in a university or graduate school context; introduce and teach students about the culture of American academic settings; provide a safe and understanding community for English-language learning; and assist students in acquiring the level of English necessary to meet the requirements for entry into OBU's undergraduate or graduate schools. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in cultural learning experiences on and off the OBU campus.
