Blitz Week Benefits Good Shepherd Chapel
April 16, 2013
Students at OBU annually raise funds for a designated beneficiary by hosting events and competitions throughout a week known as "Blitz Week." This year's fundraising will benefit Good Shepard Chapel, a church that ministers to impoverished children and families living in Shawnee.
Good Shepherd's children's ministry averages 50-60 kids from the Shawnee community on Wednesday and Sunday nights, where attendees can eat a meal, play games and hear stories from the Bible.
OBU hosted an annual art auction Monday, April 15, where painting by students were sold from the prior week's Paint-a-thon event. Also on Monday, students conducted a Mr. Bison Pageant, an event in the likeness of a beauty pageant, where selected male students performed talents and were judged on costumes.
Student classes are competing against each other on Tuesday, April 16, playing the game of Quidditch, a fictional sport from a book series. Sophomores and juniors play at 3 p.m.; freshman and seniors play at 4 p.m. Both games will be held on the intramural fields. Sonic night is also on Tuesday from 4-9 p.m., where students will be asking for donations toward their cause at the local drive-in.
Students will participate in the Whole Milk Two Mile on Wednesday night on OBU's Oval Drive. Professors will take on student athletes in the annual Faculty-Varsity basketball game on Thursday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. in OBU's Noble Complex. Admission is $2 per person, and the community is invited to attend.
Blitz Week will conclude with a student-led chapel service at University Baptist Church on Friday, April 19, at 10 a.m.
