Professor Emerita Nancy Haigler Dies at 81

Longtime OBU professor Nancy Haigler of Shawnee, Okla., died Nov. 8, 2012, in Midwest City, Okla. She was 81.
She was born to Paul Edgar and Gladys May (Scott) Reynolds in Geary, Okla., on March 25, 1931. She earned a bachelor's degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, a master's degree at the University of Oklahoma and was a certified public accountant.
She taught accounting for 32 years, teaching her first two years at Midwest City High School. She taught for 15 years at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark., where she also served on the city council as vice-mayor.
In 1981, Haigler was named assistant professor of accounting at OBU, where she served for 15 years before her retirement in 1996. She was named associate professor in 1987 and professor emerita of accounting in 1997. During her time at OBU, she served as chairman of the Business Affairs Committee in 1983-84, and she served on the Curriculum Committee and Interim Task Force. She was vice president of University Alliance in 1983-84.
She was a member of the American Institute of CPAs, American Accounting Association and the Arkansas Society of CPAs. She was named in Who's Who in American Women in 1978-80. She was an avid reader and seamstress, and she enjoyed playing bridge.
Haigler was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Harvey Haigler. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Roy Harris of Harrah, Okla., and four grandchildren: Katie Ann Horne; Jenny Diane Horne; Sarah Katharine Petty; and Karen Jenonne Horne.
A memorial service was held on Nov. 11 at Choctaw Church of Christ in Choctaw, Okla.
