Fifth Graders Learn About Olympics History at OBU

Fifth graders from Jefferson Elementary School in Shawnee listen as OBU senior Emily Urminski, a special education major from Mansfield, Texas, teaches them about the Olympics in Berlin, Germany, in 1936. Sixty-one fifth-grade students attended the annual learning opportunity, led by OBU students in the Elementary Social Studies Methods course, on Thursday, Nov. 1. Dr. Jeanne Akin, professor of teacher education, has overseen the project 27 times in her 16 years at OBU.

On Thursday, Nov. 1, OBU education majors presented a live social studies project titled "Four Olympic Vignettes: A Geographical, Cultural and Sociological Study of Greece 1896, England 2012, Germany 1936 and the Soviet Union 1980." Jett is a senior from Shawnee, and McMichael is a senior from Waldorf, Md.
