The need for food donations in Oklahoma is great, including around the holiday season. One in four Oklahoman children struggles with hunger on a regular basis, and more than 675,000 Oklahomans are at risk of going hungry every day.
Enactus, a community of student, academic and business leaders at Oklahoma Baptist University, conducted a Campbell's Canned Food Drive: "Let's Can Hunger" Challenge to counteract the tragedy of hunger in Oklahoma. The group led the drive from Nov.1-15 at Walmart in Shawnee, Okla.
The group of about 15 participants collected more than 620 pounds of canned food for during the food drive. The food was delivered to Mission Shawnee for distribution.
"It is an honor to know that God has provided for this project to happen," said Chloe Kuhlmann, a senior from Irving, Texas. "With all the help and donations our team received, it shows me how God is actively working to reach people with His love."
The name "Enactus" is derived from the organization's goals: ENtrepreneurship, ACTion and US. The organization is committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world. The canned food drive in Shawnee addressed the action part of their group's mission.
The Campbell's "Let's Can Hunger" Project Partnership, sponsored by Campbell Soup Company, mobilizes Enactus USA teams to measure and demonstrate a comprehensive approach to addressing hunger, including organizing and executing food drives for urgent hunger relief and empowering those in need to defeat the cycle of hunger for lasting hunger relief.
