Camp RAWC to Offer Fun Wellness Activities
April 24, 2012
Seven week-long themed sessions will highlight Camp RAWC, a summer wellness experience hosted by OBU's Recreation and Wellness Center for children ages 6-12. In its fourth year, Camp RAWC offers Shawnee-area children an opportunity to enjoy wellness activities and learn how to make healthy choices during summer break.
Camp RAWC is essentially a fun-filled wellness adventure, said Amy Riggins, director of the OBU Recreation and Wellness Center. Campers are taught fun ways to incorporate healthy eating and physical activity into their daily lives. Each camper participates in activities such as swimming, rock climbing and both indoor and outdoor games. The camps are directed by David Gardner, program coordinator for intramurals and recreation.
For 2012, Camp RAWC will be offering four themed sessions divided into two age categories. Each session of Camp RAWC meets Monday-Friday afternoons from 1-5 p.m. Each camper will receive a Camp RAWC T-shirt and water bottle.
The 2012 Camp RAWC themes include Amazing Race, June 4-8 for children ages 6-9, and June 11-15 for children ages 9-12; Green and Gold, June 18-22 for children ages 6-9, and June 25-29 for children ages 9-12; Hero Week, July 9-13 for all children ages 6-12; and Olympics, July 16-20 for children ages 6-9, and July 23-27 for children ages 9-12. For camps divided by ages, 9-year-old children may attend either camp.
Cost is $40 per session for RAWC members and $50 per session for non-members. If a child pre-registers by May 25, the cost is discounted $10 for each camp. Space is limited to provide a safe camper-counselor ratio. All campers must be registered the Friday before a camp; no Monday drop-ins will be allowed.
