Yates Earns Doctorate

Dr. Tony Yates, assistant professor of science at OBU, successfully defended his dissertation on Nov. 29 at the University of Oklahoma Graduate College. He has earned the doctor of philosophy degree in instructional leadership and academic curriculum.
Dr. Yates earned an associate's degree at Hutchinson Community Junior College, a bachelor's degree at Oklahoma Christian College (now Oklahoma Christian University) and a master's degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Yates' research interests include biology laboratory curriculum development. His presentations have included "Science and its Methods," presented at the University of Oklahoma Biological Field Station pre-collegiate program in June 2011; and "The Environmental Impact of the 2010 British Petroleum Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill," presented at the Meeker Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant Workshop in August 2010.
The courses Yates teaches at OBU include Human Anatomy Lecture and Lab, Human Physiology Lecture, Issues in Biology Lecture and Lab, Issues in Physical Science Lab, Introduction to General and Biological Chemistry Lab, and General Chemistry I Lab.
He is a member of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching and the National Association of Biology Teachers.
