Work Begins On Chapel Spire Windows
December 21, 2011
A large crane was raised on the OBU campus early this week as workers began the process of replacing windows in the spire tower of the university's John Wesley Raley Chapel. AT&T reached an agreement with OBU to install a cell phone antenna in the chapel's spire. The existing glass and aluminum framing could potentially interfere with the antenna transmission, leading to the replacement project.
"We are excited about this partnership with AT&T and look forward to the improved appearance of our spire tower," said Randy L. Smith, OBU executive vice president for business and administrative services.
The window and framing replacement work is expected to span the holiday season. OBU's fall semester ended on Dec. 16 and the university's January Term will begin Jan. 2.
John Wesley Raley Chapel opened in the fall of 1961. The building's spire reaches 200 feet above ground level.
