Fifth Graders Learn about 'Disney Realities' through Event
November 17, 2011
Sandra Valentine, a senior elementary education major at OBU, teaches fifth graders from Will Rogers Elementary School in Shawnee about the Ming Dynasty through use of the Disney movie, "Mulan." The theme for this year's Social Studies Methods class museum was "Disney Realities: Behind the Scenes." The learning stations included information about New Orleans from "The Princess and the Frog," an introduction to Kenya from "The Lion King," and a history of Route 66 from "Cars." Dr. Jeanne Akin, OBU professor of teacher education, oversees the annual learning opportunity, and "Disney Realities" is her 23rd museum.
