Graduate Michael Weaver Wins Emmy
July 19, 2011
He is not a doctor, and he doesn't play one on TV, but OBU graduate Michael Weaver won an Emmy for his work as a producer and writer of "The Doctors" at the 37th Daytime Emmy Award Show.
"The Doctors" beat two popular competitors, the Dr. Phil Show and the Dr. Oz Show, in the Outstanding Talk Show Informative Category at the awards program in June 2010. Weaver started out as the associate medical producer at Stage Twenty-Nine Productions, and moved to senior associate producer before becoming producer and writer.
In addition to his work on the talk show, Weaver is an executive producer on the Discovery Channel's "Planet 100" daily news series. He also helms his own production company, Dream Weaver Entertainment, as executive producer and president/CEO. The company produces feature films, network, cable and syndicated programs and commercials.
Weaver earned a bachelor's degree in biology from OBU in 1997, followed by graduate studies at Oklahoma City University. Before moving to Los Angeles in 2004, he worked at LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, Tenn., as youth division business director, chief officer of privacy and ethics, and operations manager.
"OBU was so good to me and I want to be able to help kids and parents see you might be headed in one direction - in my case medical school - but sometimes end up in a completely different line of work," Weaver said. "OBU prepared me for life, and I carry those things with me daily."
An Altus, Okla., native, Weaver now resides in Santa Monica, Calif.
