Camp RAWC to Offer Fun Wellness Activities
May 18, 2011
Eight week-long themed sessions will highlight Camp RAWC, a summer wellness experience hosted by OBU's Recreation and Wellness Center for children ages 6-12. In its third year, Camp RAWC offers Shawnee-area children an opportunity to enjoy wellness activities and learn how to make healthy choices during summer break.
Camp RAWC is essentially a fun-filled wellness adventure, said Amy Riggins, director of the OBU Recreation and Wellness Center. Campers are taught fun ways to incorporate healthy eating and physical activity into their daily lives. Each camper participates in activities such as swimming, rock climbing and both indoor and outdoor games.
In a new format from last summer, Camp RAWC will be offered in eight week-long themed sessions. Each session of Camp RAWC meets Monday-Friday afternoons from 1-5 p.m. The themes include Olympic Week, June 6-10; Sports Week, June 13-17; Fitness/Nutrition Week, June 20-24; Hero Week, June 27-July 1; Patriotic Week, July 5-8; Amazing Race, July 11-15; Time Warp, July 18-22; and Green and Gold Week, July 25-29.
Cost is $40 per session for RAWC members and $60 per session for non-members. If a child attends additional weeks, the cost is discounted $5. If more than one child in a household attends, additional children are half-off per session. Space is limited to provide a safe camper-counselor ratio.
Each camper will receive a Camp RAWC T-shirt, bag and water bottle.
"Camp RAWC strives to provide a positive Christ-like environment for all," Riggins said. "Campers will hopefully leave with a better knowledge of how to develop a lifestyle of wellness."
