Bruce Merits Award at National Media Conference

Mike Bruce, assistant professor of telecommunications at OBU, received an Award of Excellence from the Broadcast Education Association during the organization's annual convention April 9-13 in Las Vegas.
The Award of Excellence, given as part of the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts, was for Bruce's entry titled "OU Basketball on the Sooner Sports Network." The entry was a televised University of Oklahoma men's basketball game which Bruce directed.
Bruce, who is a member of the BEA board of directors, served as 2011 Convention Program Chair. His responsibilities included scheduling more than 230 convention events.
At OBU, Bruce teaches courses in broadcasting and communication, and he manages the department's television production facilities. He is a 1989 graduate of OBU's Telecommunication Department and is working toward his doctorate in communication at the University of Oklahoma. He supervises student productions such as News30 and the Bison Sports Network.
Bruce also partners with Hope Communications to complete media projects for International Mission Board personnel in Central, Eastern and Western Europe. Recent projects have included work in Italy and a project involving OBU students in Spain. He has worked as a freelance TV director, technical director and photographer for high school, college and professional sporting events. He also uses his media skills to serve community groups.
