Aspiring Musicians Invited to Main Event
February 20, 2016
Aspiring musicians interested in attending the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts are invited and encouraged to attend OBU's Main Event, a preview day hosted by the Division of Music, Feb. 20-21, on the OBU campus.
The event is designed especially for high school juniors and seniors interested in musical studies at OBU. The event provides a special opportunity for future Bison to attend music classes and ensemble rehearsals; listen and participate in faculty/student presentations and panels; audition for music scholarships; discuss financial matters with Financial Aid staff; and spend the night in campus housing with a current music major.
"Fine Arts Main Event is, in many ways, our most significant event of the spring semester," said Dr. Kristen Stauffer Todd, chair of the OBU Division of Music. "It serves a two-fold purpose: first, introducing students to what the Division of Music has to offer, through classes, lectures and our annual Concerto-Aria Concert, and second, providing those students with an opportunity to audition for the performance faculty with the possibility of receiving both admission and scholarships to attend OBU as music majors. It is an exciting time, engaging and informative for both prospective students and current members of the OBU music community."
One highlight of the Fine Arts Main Event is the annual Concerto-Aria Concert, featuring OBU music students who will perform opera arias, piano concertos and instrumental concertos with a full orchestra Sunday, Feb. 20. This year's Concerto-Aria Concert will feature the winner of the first High School Concerto-Aria competition, Mariah Saffa-Gilcrease, a senior from Jenks High School. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Potter Auditorium. The public is invited to attend the free performance.
OBU music scholarships are available in amounts from $500-$4,000 annually. For specific audition requirements and more information about the scholarships available, contact the Division of Music at (405) 878-2305 or music@okbu.edu.
The Fine Arts Main Event will begin with registration from 3:30-4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, in the Helen Thames Raley Drawing Room in Raley Chapel.
