Communication Professors Serve at Princeton
August 18, 2010
OBU professors Dr. Vickie Ellis and Dr. Kaylene Barbe taught in the Junior State of America Summer School program at Princeton University in New Jersey, in conjunction with The Junior Statesman Foundation, in July.
Ellis arrived July 5 to teach a prep course for the students who were attending from the Pacific islands. Barbe began her assignment July 11. Both professors completed their courses Aug. 1, the graduation day for the program.
Ellis taught 26 students in the island prep program, and she taught 23 students in the freshmen scholars congressional workshop section. Barbe taught 44 of the top students in the institute in two congressional workshop sections.
"We taught students from all 50 states, and many Pacific and Atlantic island students," Ellis said. "Kaylene and I had top awards given to some of the students in our classes!"
Ellis first taught with the program in 2005, and Barbe joined the summer faculty in 2008. Ellis serves as associate professor of communication arts at OBU. Barbe serves as professor of communication studies at OBU, and also is chair of the Division of Communication Arts.
