The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education recently recognized Sara Wilson, an Oklahoma Baptist University senior from Bethany, Okla., as a 2010 Nigh Academy Scholar. As a Nigh Scholar, Wilson attended the Nigh Leadership Academy in March and received a scholarship.

Wilson is a history major and English minor with a 3.923 grade point average.

"We are delighted that Sara was able to participate in the 2010 Nigh Leadership Academy," said OBU President David W. Whitlock. "This program perpetuates the Nigh family's commitment to public service and is a great resource for our state's future leaders. The academy meshes with OBU's efforts to equip graduates who are prepared to lead and to serve others."

All Oklahoma college and university presidents are invited to nominate one student leader from their school to attend the Nigh Leadership Academy. Speakers at the Nigh Leadership Academy included Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins; Glen Johnson, chancellor for the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education; Richard Rush, president and CEO of the State Chamber; James Edmondson, chief justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court; and Eric Wenger, program manager for Metropolitan Area Projects for Kids.

The Nigh Academy was first founded by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to honor former Oklahoma Governor George Nigh and his wife, Donna, for their work in advocating higher education. In its 11th year of existence, the academy continues to promote student leadership in higher education by providing opportunities for students embarking on careers in public service.
