Prep Department Welcomes New Percussion Instructor

Oklahoma Baptist University's Preparatory Department has welcomed Joshua Knight as a new percussion instructor. Students of all ages interested in studying percussion are invited to begin private study with Knight.
Specializing in marching percussion, keyboard percussion and all styles of drum-set, Knight serves as a percussion instructor at OBU and Oklahoma City Community College. He teaches the Norman High School drum line and also plays with professional groups in the area including the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra and the Fort Smith Symphony Orchestra.
Knight is a doctoral of musical arts candidate at the University of Oklahoma where he has instructed and arranged for the Pride of Oklahoma marching band, taught undergraduate lessons, performed numerous recitals and instructed percussion methods and drum-set classes. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Central Arkansas in percussion performance, studying under the world renowned composer and performer Blake Tyson. While at Central Arkansas he arranged and instructed for the marching band and taught privately. He also appeared regularly with the Conway Symphony Orchestra and Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra.
Josh Knight can be seen at upcoming solo recitals at OU on March 4 and at OBU on April 12. The recitals will include selections for solo marimba, chamber ensemble and multi-percussion.
The Music Preparatory Department began in 1985 and offers many musical opportunities to students from Shawnee and surrounding areas. Under the umbrella of the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts, the Preparatory Department offers private fine arts instruction for children and adults of all ages. The program, which includes more than 400 students, is directed by Conchita Hansford, OBU assistant professor of music.
