Alum Jami Smith Pens Songs for Commercials
November 12, 2009
"Love never fails." These are the words that Jami Smith assuredly sings in her new song featured in a commercial for St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. A native of Chickasha, Okla., Smith is a 1993 Oklahoma Baptist University graduate who has traveled the world ministering through music as a worship leader for more than 15 years.
This is the second time Smith has been approached by St. Anthony Hospital to write a song for a new ad campaign. The first opportunity was a few years ago.
"They wanted to communicate that they are faith based and believe in the power of prayer," Smith said. "They gave me the 60-second video footage that they wanted to use and asked me to write a piece. 'Faith In You,' the title track off my 2007 CD, was written in just a few minutes."
Having worked with Smith before, when St. Anthony needed a song written for their new campaign focused on the power of prayer, they came to Smith.
"This fall St. Anthony approached me again with the same goal: to communicate the message that they believed in the power of prayer," said Smith. "I was already going into the studio to record a new CD."
The CD was to be based entirely on Scripture with one song in particular, "Love Never Fails," written about 1 Corinthians 13.
"This new song fit perfectly for the commercial," Smith said.
The commercial is not the only thing on Smith's schedule this holiday season. She also released a Christmas album titled "Hope of All the Earth," which is available on iTunes, Amazon, area Mardel stores and in other local Christian bookstores.
"I love Christmas," Smith said. "My hope is that it is a very soothing record. Robbie Seay, Shane Barnard, KC Clifford and my brother, Ryan Smith, each joined me on a song.
"Christmas is such a frantic time, and really it should be a time when we give pause to the miracle of the gift of Jesus Christ," Smith said. "I wanted to musically offer people a break in the mayhem and hope, for even just a few minutes, the real meaning of Christmas would give the listeners peace and joy."
