OBU Day Takes Students, Faculty into Capital Association

Oklahoma Baptist University students and faculty representing Bison Hill will share testimonies of appreciation and accomplishment during "OBU Day in the Churches" Sunday, Oct. 4, at more than 24 churches in Capital Baptist Association in central Oklahoma. The students will assist the churches in music, preaching and testimony during worship services.

Some churches in the association plan to have students and alumni who are church members share reports and testimonies about their alma mater. OBU music groups, David's Creed and the Bison Glee Club will also perform at churches in the association.

"These individuals will testify, serve and lead in ways that will exalt Christ and demonstrate OBU's continued commitment to lead students to 'live lives worthy of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus'," said Dale Griffin, OBU dean for spiritual life.

"OBU Day in the Churches has a long history of connecting churches to the ongoing life of OBU," Griffin said. "Through OBU Day in the Churches, congregations have an opportunity to see young men and women who are currently being used of God in the midst of their academic rigors."

Capital Baptist Association is on a list of many Oklahoma Baptist associations which have participated in the association-focused events. In previous years, OBU Day in the Churches has taken students and faculty to Atoka-Coal, Pittsburgh, Southwest, Panhandle, Northwest, Comanche-Cotton, East Central, Rogers and Northeastern Baptist Associations.

The 2010 events will have a statewide emphasis in honor of the University's Centennial Celebration, said Odus Compton, OBU director of church relations. Compton noted OBU Day in the Churches gives students and staff an opportunity to thank Oklahoma Baptists for their past, current and future investment in OBU.
