Bandy Joins Faculty as Assistant Professor of New Testament

Dr. Alan Bandy has joined Oklahoma Baptist University's School of Christian Service faculty as the Rowena R. Strickland Professorship in New Testament / assistant professor of New Testament.

Bandy earned a bachelor's degree from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, Ky., and a master's degree from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Germantown, Tenn. He earned his Ph.D. degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C.

Recently, Bandy served as assistant director of Ph.D. studies for Southeastern seminary and as an adjunct professor of biblical and theological studies in Liberty University's Distance Learning Program. He served as assistant professor of Christian studies at Louisiana College from 2007-08, where he was named Professor of the Year, and as a research assistant/lecturer for Southeastern seminary from 2004-07. He also has been a visiting New Testament lecturer at Cameroon Baptist Theological Seminary in Africa and a substitute lecturer at Mid-America seminary.

Bandy was pastor of Teachey Baptist Church in Teachey, N.C., from 2003-07. Prior to that, he served as associate pastor/student minister at Cherry Road Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn.; pastor to students at National Avenue Baptist Church in Memphis; and pastor to children/youth at Calvary Baptist Church in Loyall, Ky.

He has written several journal articles, most recently "The Layers of the Apocalypse: A Holistic Approach to Revelation's Structure," published in the Journal for the Study of the New Testament in June 2009. He also has contributed sections to three books and written several book reviews.

Bandy and his wife, Necoe Christina (Ball) Bandy, have four children.
