Outstanding Business Grads Receive Awards

Nine Oklahoma Baptist University senior business majors received awards for outstanding work during the Paul Dickinson School of Business awards assembly Monday, May 11. The graduates participated in Spring Commencement Saturday, May 23, in Raley Chapel's Potter Auditorium.
Peter Wilson, a marketing/finance major from Bethany, Okla., was named the Outstanding School of Business Graduate. Wilson and Ryan Womack, a junior from Yukon, Okla., started the non-profit organization GiveCards.org to collect unused balances on gift cards and turn that money into cash for charities. Wilson was also recognized during the May 13 Awards Convocation in Raley Chapel. He graduated with the scholastic designation magna cum laude.
Megan Warren, a finance/international business major from Shawnee, received the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Student Leadership Award. Warren was a part of OBU's Students in Free Enterprise chapter in which student volunteers file people's taxes for free. The chapter also works with the Shawnee Housing Authority to help educate Shawnee residents for financial responsibility.
Samuel Craig was the recipient of the Economic Club of Oklahoma Scholarship for Outstanding Student in Economics or Finance. A resident of Shawnee, Craig was a professional accountancy major with interdisciplinary studies in finance. He served as financial director of the Student Government Association. He graduated with the designation cum laude.
Peter Jones was named Outstanding Graduate in Accounting. Jones was an accounting/finance major from Huntington, Ind. Sarah Corley was named Outstanding Graduate in Finance. Corley was a finance/marketing major from Oklahoma City graduating with the designation cum laude. Eduardo Acedo was named Outstanding Graduate in International Business. Acedo was an international business major from Bragança Paulista, São Paulo State, Brazil.
Jonathan Hilton was named Outstanding Graduate in Management. He was a management major from Buhler, Kan. Phillip Suarez was named Outstanding Graduate in Marketing. He was a marketing major from Kansas City, Mo. David Johnson was named Outstanding Graduate in Computer Science. He was a computer science major with interdisciplinary studies in history from Shawnee. He graduated with the designation summa cum laude.
Students graduate with the scholastic predicate summa cum laude for maintaining at least a 3.95 grade point average. Students who maintained at least at 3.70 GPA will be designated magna cum laude. Students who maintained at least a 3.40 GPA will be designated cum laude.
The Paul Dickinson School of Business is nationally accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs to offer the following business degrees: bachelor of business administration (BBA) with concentrations in computer information systems, finance, international business, management and marketing; bachelor of science (BS) in computer science; and bachelor of professional accountancy (BPA). The mission of the School of Business is to provide quality Christian-based business education which equips ethical graduates for leadership positions in contemporary professional careers.
