Student Politicians Present Hyde Park Day
April 15, 2009
Oklahoma Baptist University's Student Government Association hosted Hyde Park Day during chapel Wednesday, April 15. The annual event is designed to introduce candidates for SGA elected positions and class officer positions.
The candidates are: for SGA president, Ryan Womack, a senior from Oklahoma City; for SGA vice president, Dan Reynolds, a junior from Oklahoma City; for senior class president, Kyle Coleman, a rising senior from Sand Springs, Okla.; for junior class president, Brandon Dickinson, a rising junior from Enid, Okla.; and for sophomore class president, Chuck Porter, a rising sophomore from Owasso, Okla.
For the 2009-10 academic year, all of the SGA races are uncontested, meaning all of the candidates ultimately win by default, said Mackenzie Hufty, SGA chief of staff. Following the Hyde Park Chapel service, a Hyde Park luncheon was conducted for OBU administration, all candidates for offices, all current office holders, and all current SGA cabinet members.
"The luncheon is intended to provide an opportunity for the OBU administration to become familiar with the rising student leadership, as both parties will be working closely together in the upcoming academic year," Hufty said.
Freshmen class elections are conducted in the fall semester once new students have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the campus, with one another, and with SGA.
