Bisonettes to Perform Spring Concerts
April 22, 2009
Oklahoma Baptist University's Bisonette Glee Club will perform spring concerts at two area churches in the coming weeks. The public is invited to attend the performances at Waterloo Baptist Church, 3100 E. Waterloo Road in Edmond, Okla., Sunday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m.; and at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1451 E. 45th Street in Shawnee, Sunday, May 3, at 8:15 a.m. and 10:50 a.m.
The choral group, consisting of 31 auditioned female members, performs for local churches and the OBU student body. The Bisonettes got their start on Bison Hill in 1954.
"This choir both unifies and enriches lives of all who pass through," said Darla Eshelman, Oklahoma Baptist University associate professor of music education, who directs the group.
The Bisonettes' theme for their performance - "Ektaa" - grew out of their annual fall retreat. From the Hindi language, the term means "unity" or "together."
"The program was chosen to reflect the unique oneness and unity which unfolds throughout each year in the Bisonette Glee Club," Eshelman said.
Sacred, multi-cultural, gospel and contemporary selections will be featured during the concert.
