Surprise!' Spring Affair Slated for April 18
April 14, 2009
A Bison Hill tradition continues Saturday, April 18, as Oklahoma Baptist University's Campus Activities Board puts on the latest installment of the annual talent show "Spring Affair" at 8 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Potter Auditorium. The show's directors assure year's production is sure to turn some heads.
This year's show, titled "Surprise! Spring Affair!" will be exactly that for the audience, surprise after surprise. Secret emcees whose identities won't be revealed until show time, programs arranged out of order with the true names of performers kept a secret, and a secret panel of judges who will decide the winner of the competition are sure to keep the audience on the edges of their seats.
"We have a ton of surprises, fantastic emcees, incredible acts, and numerous special appearances," said Courtney Ingram, one of the two directors of the show and a four-year member of Campus Activities Board (CAB). "I think there will be something for everyone, and CAB has definitely gone above and beyond this time to ensure an unforgettable show."
Ingram is a senior from Norman, Okla., and her co-director, Lara Cobb, is a senior from Seminole, Okla.
"We found a quote by Ashley Montagu, 'The moments of happiness we enjoy take us by surprise. It is not that we seize them, but that they seize us,'" Ingram said. "We tried to incorporate this idea so that every audience member can relate in some way. We were able to really stretch our creativity in putting together this show, and we hope that the audience enjoys it. It's going to be full of surprises, and that is definitely what sets it apart from other shows."
Cobb agreed that the show's unusual production plan will provide entertainment for all.
"It's been fun to see it come from a simple idea and brainstorming into a show that will provide entertainment and laughs for our peers and the community," said Cobb, who also has been a member of CAB for four years. "Come ready to be surprised, have some fun, and hear and see some great talent."
A stage band made up of David Stephens, Heather Daniell, D.H. Dilbeck, Kris Stephens, Chance Ballard and Phil Suarez, will also perform some crowd favorites to go along with the different acts and skits.
Admission to "Surprise! Spring Affair!" is free and the show is open to both the OBU family and the community. There will be an intermission featuring free refreshments served by CAB members.
