Crane Named to State Advisory Board
March 13, 2009
Canaan Crane, Oklahoma Baptist University assistant professor of psychology, was recently appointed by the Oklahoma State Board of Health to serve on the Licensed Marital and Family Therapist Advisory Board. Crane's term with the state board will begin in April and continue until March 2013.
"The board advises the State Board of Health as they regulate marital and family therapy," said Crane. "To get to be a part of that - to get to influence the practice of marital and family counseling - is pretty exciting"
Board members are nominated by current marital and family therapists who are members of the Oklahoma Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. The board will meet six times a year, dealing with any filed complaints and issues related to licensing, to set education standards, and to regulate licensures.
Crane graduated from OBU in 1997 with a bachelor of arts degree in family psychology. He earned a master's degree in marriage and family therapy from OBU in 2000. He is a doctoral candidate at Oklahoma State University, pursuing a Ph.D. in human environmental sciences, specializing in family science.
He previously served as OBU's director of student services and university counselor. He became an assistant professor of psychology in August 2007.
