Chapel Focuses on the Infinitude of God

October 8, 2008

Continuing Oklahoma Baptist University's chapel series theme, "Lost and Found," John Meador, pastor of First Baptist Church, Euless, Texas, spoke on the infinitude of God during campus chapel service on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Meador challenged students to grasp the concept that God is boundless and should not be put in a box. To illustrate his point, he constructed a box on stage and placed the name of God inside showing students that their conception of God is misplaced.

"God's character is bigger than we can ever imagine," Meador said.

Christians often lose touch with God's infinitude, Meador said. He explained that living in a finite world with nothing but boundaries and obstacles makes it easy to stray from the infinity of God. Also, losing contact with Scripture builds walls between Christians and God. Bad personal experiences with the church or Christianity can set up barriers in a relationship with Christ.

"Even though the infinitude of God is sometimes lost, it can be found because nothing is too big for God. To get Him out of the box, all we have to do is be reintroduced," Meador said.

Meador quoted Romans 11:36, which says, "For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to be glory forever."

"When I grasp the infinitude of God, it moves me to say, do and think things I wouldn't, normally," Meador said.

He spoke from Romans 12, which stresses the idea of a transforming walk with Christ. After grasping the infinitude of God, Meador said, a different realm of walk and worship takes place, and an individual is never the same.
