Saturday in Park’ Welcomes 650-Plus Students
September 3, 2008
More than 650 students attended "Saturday in the Park," a back-to-school celebration hosted by Oklahoma Baptist University's Campus Ministry, on Aug. 30 at Woodland Park in downtown Shawnee. At least three Baptist Collegiate Ministry groups, including OBU, participated in the day-long event that followed the theme "Rejoice."
Students enjoyed park-style games and a "Battle of the Bands" in the afternoon, followed by musical artist Jami Smith, worship duo Shane and Shane, and guest speaker Brad Fogarty in the evening.
Dale Griffin, OBU Campus Minister, said he was very pleased with the participation and thankful for the work of this year's event co-chairs, OBU students Veronica Pistone, a junior from Blue Springs, Mo., and Cody Bryan, a sophomore from Spencer, Okla. Griffin also expressed thanks for the support of the Pott-Lincoln Baptist Association; help from several area churches including Heritage Church in Shawnee and Northwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City; a Green Room for the performers provided by Emmanuel Episcopal Church; and a grill provided by First United Bank of Shawnee.
