Hurn Signs With Wingnuts
May 28, 2008
Oklahoma Baptist University pitcher Doug Hurn has signed an independent league contract with the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.
The Wingnuts are members of the 10-team league, which includes teams from Texas, Kansas, Iowa, South Dakota, Arkansas, Louisiana, Nebraska and Florida. Included in that are some colorful squads such as the Grand Prairie Air Hogs, the Lincoln Salt Dogs and the Sioux Falls Canaries.
Hurn, a Sparks, Nev., native, joins former Bison teammate Ron Ball on the pitching staff. Former seven-year major league veteran Dustan Mohr was on the team but recently had his contract purchased by the Colorado Rockies.
Hurn saw his first action on his first day, pitching a one-hit, scoreless eighth inning in relief during an 8-1 win over Sioux Falls.
A starter at OBU, Hurn was 7-2 with a 4.89 earned run average for the Bison in 2008.
