Boyer Named NAIA Scholar Athlete
May 20, 2008
Oklahoma Baptist University catcher Jayme Boyer added yet another line to her college softball resume, earning the distinction of NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete.
The award, which requires a 3.5 grade point average or better on all college work, as well as junior or senior academic standing, was announced Monday.
Boyer, a junior catcher from Shawnee, holds OBU records for home runs in a game, season and career and the record for season and career walks. Many more career records are teetering just in front of her with a season left to play.
A three-time All-Conference pick, Boyer was a First-Team All-American in 2007, when she also was named Diamond Sports NAIA Catcher of the Year and Co-Player of the Year in the Sooner Athletic Conference and NAIA Region VI.
Boyer, the daughter of educators Todd and Dana Boyer, is an English education major.
Earlier this month, Boyer was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team and is still under consideration for the Academic All-America Team.
