May 12, 2008
Oklahoma Baptist has added Derieck Mosbey Jr., a 6-1 guard from Oakland, Calif., to the men's basketball team for the 2008-09 season.
Mosbey, a junior transfer from Chabot College, averaged 14 points, four rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.4 steals last year. He was a first-team All-Conference selection and was on the All-State honorable mention squad and named a top 100 player in California.
A product of Castlemont High School, he led the Knights to a conference championship and was an All-Conference and All-State Tournament selection. He also made the Honor Roll as a senior.
He is the son of Vevelyn A. Johnson.
"I chose OBU because of the coaches, players and the history of the basketball program," said Mosbey.
The Bison, coached by Doug Tolin, compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference and have been to the national tournament eight consecutive seasons and are second in all-time national tournament wins.
