April 5, 2008

The Bison won the opener 7-6 and a scored a run-rule victory in the nightcap, 15-5.

OBU took the first game on a walk-off base hit to the left-center gap by Chris Chambers.

The game didn't start particularly well as Jordan Price ripped the first pitch of the game over the left-center wall for a 1-0 Eagles lead.

OBU tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first when Kyle Cooper walked and scored on Josh Collazo's first triple of the season.

Ray Long put OC ahead 2-1 in the second with an RBI single, but the Bison again tied it in the bottom of the inning, using an RBI double by Whitt Barkley.

The Eagles scored three in the fourth on an RBI double by Josh Henry, an RBI groundout by Long and a sac fly by Price to take a 5-2 lead.

OBU didn't answer that rally until the fifth when the Bison took their first lead with four runs. Collazo had an RBI double, two runs scored when Cooper's bunt single was thrown into right field by the OC third baseman. Mason Reilly's sacrifice fly delivered the first home team lead, 7-6.

Jeff Davis homered off OBU reliever Jordan McCavitt to open the seventh.

After the first two batters fanned in the bottom of the seventh, OBU got a double by Collazo. After an intentional walk to Reilly, Chambers singled home Collazo with a gapper to the wall.

It was Chambers' second walk-off home run in less than two weeks. He also beat Bacone on a walk-off home run. The hit made MCavitt (5-1) the winning pitcher.

Collazo had three of OBU's seven hits in the contest.

OBU posted six runs to end all the drama in the first inning of the second game, using an RBI single by Cooper, an RBI double by Reilly, RBI singles by Frank Avilla and Barkley and a two-run double by Cody Lambeth.

The Bison scored a run on an error in the second and then tacked on the final eight runs in the third.

Collazo had a two-run single and Reilly added an RBI single to make it 10-0. Chambers added a two-run home run - his seventh this season - and Josh Kirkpatrick and Billy Thomas added RBI singles.

OC scored five times in the top of the fifth, including a grand slam by Tyler Gipson off reliever Andrew Dickison, but couldn't push a prolonging sixth run across to avoid the run rule.

Josh Palmer (3-2) pitched four shutout innings for the win.

Reilly paced the offense with three hits, while Thomas, Chambers, Avilla and Barkley had two each.

Now 29-8 overall and 13-7 in the SAC, the Bison play at Oklahoma Christian Monday at 3 p.m. to finish the series.
