Bison Complete Sweep of Cavaliers

April 26, 2008

Senior Doug Hurn (6-2) got the start for the Bison and struck out a career-high 11, giving him the highest single-game strikeout total for an OBU player this season. Hurn, though, allowed unearned runs in the sixth and seventh and fell behind 2-0.

Senior designated hitter Keith Johnson led the bottom of the seventh with a walk. After a two-out intentional walk to slugger Josh Collazo, St. Gregory's starter Kip Honeycutt lost his shutout and the lead on a three-run home run to left by Bison senior Mason Reilly.

Honeycutt (0-1) had pitched 5.1 innings heading into the day and had shut the door on OBU's top-five offense to that point.

The Bison got an insurance run in the eighth when Cody Lambeth walked with two outs and scored from first on a double by Johnson.

Bison senior Jordan McCavitt picked up his third save of the season, going two perfect innings with two strikeouts. Between them, Hurn and McCavitt struck out every SGU starter.

OBU had seven hits and no Bison had more than one in the game.

It was the last game on Bison Field for seniors Kyle Cooper, Reilly, Chambers, Frank Avilla, Christian Ruiz, Whitt Barkley, Johnson, Hurn, Andrew Dickison, Adam Garner and McCavitt.

Now 40-12 overall, the Bison will play Rogers State in the SAC Tournament at 4 p.m., Tuesday, in Plainview, Texas. St. Gregory's will play top-seeded Lubbock Christian Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Oklahoma City will play USAO at 1 p.m. and the first round ends with a 7 p.m. game matching Southern Nazarene and Wayland Baptist.

If OBU wins the opener, they play at 4 p.m. Wednesday, while a loss would have them in Wednesday's 10 a.m. contest.
