OBU Sweeps MACU

Oklahoma Baptist improved to 4-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a pair of pitching gems in sweeping Mid-American Christian 4-0 and 2-0 Tuesday.
Sonya Beach (6-5) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and nearly completed the feat. OBU's freshman retired the first two batters of the seventh. Heidi Steckbauer reached on an error, giving her sister Holly a chance to ruin the no-no. Holly Steckbauer singled up the middle and MACU loaded the bases before Beach retired the inning.
It was the second shutout of the season for Beach.
The Lady Bison scored twice in the first inning on RBI singles by Kaley Dickerson and Brittney Day.
OBU made it a 3-0 game in the second on another RBI single by Dickerson.
Vanessa Fortune singled home a run in the top of the seventh.
The Lady Bison had 15 hits in the game, including three by Jami Pate and two each by Alyssa Henkes, Dickerson, Beach, Day and Fortune.
Whitney Heltzel went the distance for her first shutout of the season in the second game, scattering three hits.
OBU got both its runs in the third inning on a two-run single by Jayme Boyer.
The Lady Bison had nine this, led by Henkes with three.
Now 12-8 overall and 4-0 in the SAC, the Lady Bison take off for the Gulf Coast Invitational where they will play No. 21 Thomas, No. 7 Shorter, No. 27 Spring Hill and No. 36 Columbia.
