Lady Bison Thwart John Brown
March 1, 2008
Oklahoma Baptist's vaunted defense allowed 42 points in the first half to John Brown University, but buckled down and allowed just 14 in the second half in getting the Lady Bison a 73-56 road win Saturday.
The lead changed hands seven times in the first half, but John Brown led by as many as nine in the half and had a 42-37 halftime advantage.
The Golden Eagles scored on an Ashley Taylor three-pointer to start the second half and gain a 45-37 lead, but that was just about the end of the bad news for OBU.
Taujhnae Travis hit a three-pointer to trigger a 12-0 Lady Bison run. Travis had five points, Betsy Simmons four and Jennifer Jupin three in that run to give OBU a lead, 49-45, they would never relinquish in the final 14 minutes.
The lead peaked at 19 points on a free throw by Keely Tolin at the 4:27 mark.
After allowing JBU to shoot 55 percent in the first half from the field, the Lady Bison held JBU to 21 percent shooting in the second half.
Travis led OBU with 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, while Jupin had 15 points and Heather Graham had 10.
Now 27-3 overall and 19-3 in the SAC, the Lady Bison will play in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Friday.
