Win Streak Ends in Texas
February 8, 2008
Oklahoma Baptist had its season-opening win streak stopped at seven games when Hardin-Simmons knocked off the Bison Friday night 13-5.
OBU trailed 3-0 after the first inning but tied the game in the top of the second with three runs on a rally that didn't start until there were two outs. Christian Ruiz, Kyle Cooper and Mason Reilly had back-to-back-to-back RBI singles to knot things up.
Joshua Collazo lofted his second home run of the trip to give OBU a 4-3 lead in the third inning, but the Cowboys came up with two runs for a 5-4 lead after three.
In the top of the fourth, Reilly came up with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 5-5.
But that was all the offense for the Bison and Hardin-Simmons was just getting started. The Cowboys struck for eight more runs to close out with the 13-5 win.
OBU had 11 hits in the game, including three by Cooper and two each by Ruiz and Collazo.
Chase Jestice (1-1) took the loss.
OBU returns to action Saturday with a noon game with Hardin-Simmons and then finishes the trip with a 3 p.m. contest against College of the Southwest.
