Lady Bison Fall at OCU

The Oklahoma City women avenged their only conference loss with a three-point, 61-58 win over Oklahoma Baptist, securing a win that will go a long way to helping them in a possible regular season conference crown.

The Stars held the Lady Bison seven three-point attempts for the game, but the difference was at the free throw line. OBU had a sub-standard 58 percent, leaving eight points at the free throw line.

"They played good defense, but we played well," said OBU coach John McCullough. "If we make a couple free throws here and there, maybe it's a different game."

There were six lead changes and three ties in the first half, with OCU taking a 32-30 lead into the lockers at halftime.

OBU, which had a 13-0 run at one point in the first half, opened the second half on an 11-2 spree to take a 41-34 lead three minutes into the half.

The Stars later answered with a 12-0 run to take the game's eighth and final lead change and a 52-45 edge with 9:23 remaining.

OCU had a 10-point lead, 60-50, with 3:29 remaining. Taujhnae Travis led OBU on an 8-0 run to make it a 60-58 game. OBU had a desperation heave come well short at the buzzer.

OBU won the rebounding war 44-36, but the Stars gathered 19 offensive rebounds while OBU had 18.

Heather Graham led the Lady Bison with 14 points, followed by Travis with 13 and Jennifer Jupin with 10. Betsy Simmons had 10 rebounds.

Erika Gaddies led OCU with 16 points.

Now 12-3 overall and 13-3 in the SAC, the OBU women play at Mid-America Christian Saturday at 6 p.m.
