Bison Lose at Rogers State

Oklahoma Baptist University's defense struggled with a variety of Rogers State scorers en route to a 78-71 loss to the Hillcats in the first-ever men's basketball game between the two schools.

RSU enjoyed the home win with five different double-figure scorers, maligning the top defense in the NAIA with 52 percent shooting and a 72-percent free throw night.

The teams entered the game on the opposite end of the free throw shooting spectrum in conference games, but the Bison, who entered shooting 75 percent from the line, missed 11 times in 31 attempts.

"I felt like we left a lot of points out there with the good looks we missed and the free throw misses," said OBU coach Doug Tolin. "They out-shot us at the line and they haven't out-shot a lot of people there this year. They ran their offense good. They have a lot of weapons and the made a lot of baskets."

The Bison had the lead once in the first half, but trailed for the last 26 minutes of the game.

Rogers State had a 34-29 lead at the half.

OBU got the lead down to two points on a Brian Hill free throw with 13:02 left in the game, but the Hillcats responded with a 9-0 run to take a 52-41 advantage with 9:55 left. OBU got no closer than five points from there.

Brent Jones led the Bison with 22 points, followed by Hill with 20.

Bryson Krueger led RSU with 20, while Al Reynolds and Abram Donlon had 11 each and Sylvester Spicer and Eric Young had 10 each.

Now 15-5 overall and 7-5 in the SAC, the Bison play home against John Brown on Tuesday.
